The greenest coastal town on the southern Costa Blanca — kilometres of beach behind dunes and pine forest,
with a town life that has stayed genuinely Spanish.
Guardamar del Segura is the odd one out on the southern Costa Blanca: a real Spanish town at the mouth of the river Segura, with more than ten kilometres of wide sandy beach hidden behind protected dunes and planted pine forest. That green coastal strip — laid down in the early twentieth century to shield the town from drifting sand — makes Guardamar the greenest coastal town on the entire southern coast.
Unlike the urbanisations further along, Guardamar does not run on tourism alone: it has its own Spanish economy, a busy Thursday market, schools, and a centre that is alive all year. For buyers who want authenticity with a serious beach on the doorstep, it is one of the best choices in the region.
Would you also like to look inland? Compare Guardamar with the residential setting of Los Montesinos: a village of its own as your base, with a day at the beach as a trip out to the coast.
More than ten kilometres of wide sand behind dunes and pines — nowhere else on the southern coast does the beach feel this natural.
A lively centre, a weekly market, Spanish shops and restaurants — all year round, not just in summer.
The pine woods of La Pinada, the river Segura and the nearby La Mata salt lakes: walking and cycling straight from your front door.
Generally more accessible than the Orihuela Costa urbanisations — with more amenities, not fewer.
The market here consists of apartments in and around the town centre, some within walking distance of the beach, properties in the green zones towards La Pinada, and new-build on the edges and near the Marina de las Dunas. Because the town is genuinely Spanish, supply is more varied — and often more keenly priced — than in the purely international resorts.
One thing to watch: the distance to the beach varies enormously within the town, and not every property advertised as close to the sea genuinely is. We measure it, we know the walking routes through the dunes, and we let you experience the difference on the ground rather than on a map.
From search profile to notary we act entirely on your side — never the seller’s. We compare the whole market, check the legal position and negotiate in your interest. Cannot travel yourself?
